An Intro to Halloween Party Food
Halloween party food can be divided into 3 categories: sweets and candies, disgusting food and party food that has been decorated in the spirit of Halloween. The first category is really easy to arrange, just visit your local supermarket or better yet wholesale supermarket like Costco or Sam’s Club and load up on Halloween candy. These will serve as your Halloween party snacks and you can distribute them at the door or have them set in bowls around the party room. Wholesalers are also a great place to get Halloween cakes and cookies as they are already decorated for Halloween and are relatively cheap and huge in portions and numbers. You can also pick up doughnuts or cupcakes in black and orange colors (carrot and chocolate) and later decorate them.
Some of My Favorite Halloween Party Recipes
Creepy Lady Fingers: These can be made with dough, bread or carrots that are shaped like a finger with an almond for the finger nail. Click here for a great recipe.
Tip: If you’re using bread or dough make the knuckles using a knife or by pressing the dough in two places instead of rolling one roll.
All Sorts of Eyeballs: Make super easy eyeballs using leeches or mozzarella cheese. Use a fruit like blueberry or raspberry or the like to create the eye effect by placing it in the middle. You can also create eyeballs from eggs and some food coloring. Check out this site for an easy recipe. Another eyeball ideas is to use a radish peeled in some places topped with an olive in the middle. It makes for a great decorating effect for drinks and salads and is really easy to create.
Tip: For the Mozzarella eyeball effect use something salty like an olive with the fruit, it will create a nice sweet and salty taste.
Mummy Pizza: You can turn any pizza recipe into a Halloween pizza by simply spreading more cheese in the shape of bandages across the pizza (instead of all over) and adding olives for eyes. However this recipe works best with tiny round bite-size pizzas. Here’s an easy step by step recipe.
Decorated Cupcakes and Cookies: This can actually be part o of your team building activities for the workplace initiative and can take place during the actual Halloween party.
All you need is a bunch of cupcakes and lots of delicious candy that can be used to decorate the cupcakes. You can also use fruits and food coloring and extra frosting to add to the fun.
Two More Fun Ideas
1) Make a few centerpieces using melons by carving them into a “brains” and spooky vegetable and fruit trays. By carving a few fruits and vegetables into Halloween characters.
2) Set up menu cards with information about what’s in each dish to avoid allergic reactions; let’s face it it’s not that easy to tell what’s in all that Halloween party food, and add use the menu card to add a fun name to each dish. Happy Halloween Planning!
